BCSO blotter: DUIs, threats, damage to property

From the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office reports, Dec. 5-14.

Warrant: A deputy reported Dec. 5 that dispatchers said a man was asking for a welfare check on a Richmond Hill subdivision address, but was told by them BCSO would no longer be doing the checks because he’d made previous calls and now had a warrant out on him for misusing 911 and stalking.

The man was at a Savannah supermarket, where he was picked up by police there and taken to Highway 204 and turned over to the deputy. The man was charged with stalking and misusing 911.

Threats: BCSO was called Dec. 5 regarding threats made by a boy to kill other family members. The boy was 12.

Open container, DUI, more: A deputy on patrol Dec. 5 -- the report lists a time of 1:28 a.m.—in Henderson Park spotted a green F150 heading down Henderson Park Boulevard towards Veterans Memorial then spin around and go to the tennis court parking area, the pickup entering sideways.

The deputy pulled over the 24-year-old driver, who was arrested for reckless driving and, since he smelled of alcohol, given a breath test. He failed it, the report said. Alcohol was also found in the pickup, which was turned over to a passenger who hadn’t been drinking.

Verbal dispute: Deputies were sent to a Richmond Hill address around 3:45 p.m.

Dec. 6 because a man called to report his girlfriend had told him she’d taken a whole bottle of Ibuprofen. “When (the deputy) arrived at the home, (the woman) was sitting on the couch watching TV and had no idea why we were there,” the report said. EMS checked the woman out and she was fine.

The couple were having an argument when the man made the call, and they agreed to stay apart for a while.

Fraud: A South Bryan woman reported Dec. 6 someone bought a $540 ring using her name and had it shipped to an Acworth, Ga., address. The woman didn’t know anyone in Acworth and hadn’t bought the ring.

She wanted a police report to send to her credit card company.

Civil matter: A Richmond Hill woman reported at some point Dec. 6 that her “husband had been walking through the house and calling her a cheater in front of their children.” The woman told the deputy the man didn’t say anything to her directly and wasn’t yelling at her. She said she’d already gone to see a lawyer. The woman was told her husband hadn’t broken any laws, but she was given a case number, etc.

Damage to property: An Ellabell man reported Dec. 7 a pickup was driven onto his property and caused damage. The man had video showing the pickup, etc. The deputy then went and spoke to the pickup driver, a 19-year-old, and took him to meet the complainant, and the teen was told what “made aware of the consequences of future incidents,’ and said he understood and went home.

Aid to other agencies: A deputy was sent to a Richmond Hill address around 2:13 p.m. Dec. 7 regarding an overdose. He found a woman lying on the floor and a man trying to give her CPR. The man said the woman snorted fentanyl. The deputy administered Narcan. She regained consciousness and EMS came to take care of her.

Threats: A truck driver staying in a Richmond Hill motel reported his “crazy ex” was sending him messages threatening to kill him and his children, and to send pornographic videos to his kids. He showed the deputy the messages and said she’d taken out a temporary protective order in Chatham County preventing him from contacting her. He was told to go magistrate court for a protective order and given a case number.

Damage to property: A deputy was sent to the Love’s Truck stop on Highway 280 around 5:41 p.m. Dec. 7 regarding a damaged electrical box, which was hit by a semi. The driver of the semi admitted hitting it accidentally. Both the store manager and driver got a case number.

Warrants: A man wanted on a felony warrant from Bibb County and a misdemeanor warrant in Bryan County turned himself in at a Pembroke address around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 7. He was taken to jail.

Verbal dispute: Deputies were sent April 7 to a Richmond Hill address, where a woman reported a 39-year-old woman “keeps calling and texting her, making outrageous accusations, and has now begun to show up at the residence.” The complainant said the woman came to that show that day asking for money and claiming the complainant stole her grandmother’s house. The deputy noted the woman doing the harassing “seems to have some emotional or mental issues going on,” and was given a criminal trespass notice, “and she was told what it means.”

DUI, failure to maintain lane: Deputies sent around 6:19 p.m. Dec. 7 to help out with a one-vehicle accident on Highway 17 at Harris Trail found the driver, a 39-year old woman, was under the influence. Her car had crossed the median and hit a curb on the other side of the road. She was arrested and given a court date, but released to seek medical help if she needed it. Her vehicle was towed.

Theft: An Ellabell man reported Dec. 8 an air compressor and metal gas can had been stolen from his property. He also reported a pickup belonging to another man had been entered and someone might have stolen the radio knobs. He got a case number.

Suspended license: A 20-year-old woman was stopped on Highway 204 after her vehicle’s tag showed the owner’s license was suspended. She was arrested.

Civil matter: A man went to BCSO in South Bryan on Dec. 8 regarding a civil matter.

Damage to property: A man reported Dec. 8 he was driving north on Highway 17 when a semi with an Indiana plate kicked up a rock which chipped his windshield. He gave deputies the tag number and got a case number.

Threats: A woman reported Dec. 9 a man who was fired from the Hyundai plant in Richmond Hill three weeks ago threatened to kill her. The woman had already notified security. She was concerned for her safety.

DUI, failure to maintain lane: A deputy was sent at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 to help block traffic on Highway 280 at Toni Branch Road while a vehicle was being towed from a ditch. There, he noticed the 38-year-old driver of the vehicle was acting nervous.

The deputy could smell alcohol, etc., and the driver was eventually charged with DUI. He also reportedly was belligerent and claimed to have medical issues.

Fraud: A South Bryan man reported Dec. 10 that on Nov. 19 he got a call from “someone claiming to be with the government.” The man said he got suspicious and hung up, but not before giving the caller information about his bank account – and had $10,000 taken from the account in one transaction. He canceled all his cards and notified his bank, and needed a case number as well.

Abandoned vehicle: Deputies were asked Dec. 10 to handle a vehicle blocking the entrance to Kings Ferry Park RV Park. The vehicle was towed.

Arrest warrant: An Ellabell woman was arrested on a warrant on Dec. 10 after her car was pulled over for an obstructed tag.

The woman wasn’t driving the car, her boyfriend was, but the deputy followed the car to their home after talking to both of them on the phone and she agreed to get the warrant resolved.

Runaway juvenile: A Richmond Hill woman reported around 11:30 p.m. Dec.

11 that her daughter had left the home after an argument around 10 p.m. The deputy responding to the call spotted the girl on his way to the home and took her home.

DUI: A 58-year-old woman was arrested and charged with DUI on Dec. 10 around 11 p.m. after she rolled her car over on Highway 119 and was then heard by dispatchers telling someone on the phone to “come pick me up before the cops get here.”

The woman was reportedly clearly intoxicated, but claimed she hadn’t had anything to drink and refused to do any sobriety tests. She was first taken to Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton to get checked out, and then taken to Bryan County Jail.

Suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the road: Deputies arrested a 26-yearold man around 3:45 a.m. Dec. 11 on Harvey Town Road, where he was stopped by deputies after leaving Pembroke. The man’s license had been suspended four times for failing to appear in court. He was also reportedly a suspect in a domestic violence case and was described as “irate and argumentative,” as he was being questioned and handcuffed.

Damage to property: A dented bumper was found on a BCSO vehicle on Dec. 11.

Fraud: A Richmond Hill man went to BCSO Dec. 11 to report a Capital One account was opened in his name. He needed the report for his bank. He got one.

Criminal trespass: A Pembroke woman reported Dec. 11 that two men broke into her house Dec. 9, went into her caretaker’s room and damaged or took some of the caretaker’s belongings and did some damage to his bathroom. She was given a case number and said the caretaker would also need to file a report.

DUI, no license, etc: A 21-year-old man was arrested for DUI and other offenses after his pickup was stopped around 6 p.m.

Dec. 11 for weaving and swerving off the road while the man was driving on Highway 204. The driver, who spoke no English, eventually said he’d been at a work Christmas party. He tested positive for alcohol and was taken to jail, etc.

Criminal trespass: A deputy was sent to the Love’s Truck Stop around 11 p.m. Dec.

11 regarding a man who was reportedly stalking his ex-girlfriend. The manager of the store wanted him to give a notice not to come in the store. He was.

Theft by taking: A North Bryan man reported Dec. 12 someone went into his yard and stole tools and a vehicle rim, and had earlier gone into his Bulloch County Public Works truck and taken fuel cards.

He had security video of the man, who was described as white with a thick black coat and dark cap. Detectives were notified and the complainant got a case number.

Drugs, more: A 20-year-old North Carolina man was arrested on multiple charges Dec. 12 after his car was pulled over on Highway 280 around midnight for crossing the fog line. The man smelled of pot and a search of his vehicle turned up suspected drugs and three unloaded weapons. The man’s passenger was also arrested.

Violation of court order, disorderly conduct: A 20-year-old Richmond Hill woman was charged with disorderly house after deputies were sent to her home Dec. 12 because she was having a disagreement with her boyfriend. There had been as many as 18 reports about the address over the last two years, the report said.

Verbal dispute: BCSO was called Dec. 12 to a Richmond Hill residence where a man and his mother were having a disagreement.

DUI, failure to maintain lane: A 50-yearold Ellabell man was charged with DUI after a deputy spotted his pickup weaving on Eldora Road. The man said he’d had a few drinks over in Effingham County and flunked a field sobriety test, the report said.

His pickup was towed.

Terroristic threats: A Richmond Hill woman reported Dec. 13 that her ex was out of jail and threatening to kill her. She told deputies he went to jail about a year ago for trying to run her over in Forsyth Park in Savannah. She was told to get copies of any court orders she had against him and, if she didn’t have any, to get one.

DUI, more: A 22-year-old man pulled over for driving the wrong way on Highway 17 after midnight Dec. 13 was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test – he blew .205 on a breath test – and multiple beer bottles were found in the cab of his pickup.

He faces a laundry list of charges, including driving without a license. His pickup was towed.

DUI-drugs, more: A 21-year-old man was arrested around midnight Dec. 13 after he was stopped after passing another traffic stop on Highway 17 and a deputy could smell pot. After various sobriety tests, the man was charged with DUI, violation of license restrictions and failure to move over for police.

Criminal Trespass: A deputy was sent to the Prayer House on Brisbon Road on Dec. 13 after the complainant drove by and noticed the donation box missing and a sign saying “Don’t Play with the Bell,” was gone. The complainant said he parked at the building and saw a woman sitting in the back with a fire burning, and she ran away when he tried to talk to her. He saw the donation box inside. It had been broken into and there was no money in it. He also saw a lot of pennies on one of the pews inside the building, and “bloody items belonging to a female inside the trash can.” The building has no lock, the report said. The complainant got a case number and a detective was briefed.

DUI: A 43-year-old man pulled over on Highway 17 around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 14 for driving 72 mph was charged with DUI after he reportedly smelled of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test. His vehicle and a passenger were picked up by a sober driver.
