The state of Georgia’s Rookie Firefighter of the Year for 2009 is Richmond Hill resident and volunteer firefighter Robert Jordan of the Bryan County Fire Department, South Division.

Jordan, Bryan County’s Rookie Firefighter of the Year for 2008, was selected by the Georgia State Firefighter’s Association as the State’s Rookie of the Year and was recognized at the annual Association Conference held in Athens this past week.

"I am very honored, but I was very surprised that I was even nominated," said Jordan who came to the BCFD when he moved to Richmond Hill in 2007.

"Robert’s selection brings great credit to Bryan County," said Chief Mike Smith with the South Bryan County Fire Department. "He went up against the best new firefighters in the state and brought home a significant award."
