In appreciation of Ellis Phillips

Richmond Hill resident Ellis Phillips, a longtime member of the Liar’s Club and the organizer and driving force behind the semi-regular, semi-annual fish fries and cookouts at J.F. Gregory for the county’s law enforcement and public safety personnel, was honored with a plaque from Bryan County Sheriff Mark Crowe at the most recent cookout, held Feb. 23 at the park.

The plaque reads, in part, “In appreciation for your dedication and service to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department.” Phillips has long said the cookouts are a small way to give back to first responders because “of all they do for us.”

The Liar’s Club and the DP Club have been doing the cookouts for longer than members can remember, without a formal schedule but usually when they catch enough fish and shrimp to feed folks.
