Richmond Hill American Legion Post 27 recently held an installation of officers for the coming year.

John Ellis was elected post commander, David James, adjutant, Terrance Herzog, finance officer. Fleming Stephens, Katherine Barker and Terry Spanglet Duncan were elected as vice commanders.

Sergeant-at-arms will be Thomas Johnson, chaplain Mike Matuzsan and Mike Duncan, public affairs officer.

Herzog was voted member of the year by post membership. Special recognition was given to Terry Spanglet Duncan, Barker and Matuzsan for their work in the Buddy Check program ensuring members are safe and their needs are met.

After the ceremony members enjoyed a potluck lunch.

After lunch a 1984 Corvette was raffled off. The lucky winner was able to drive the car home and Post 27 garnered over $5,000 in ticket sales.

Post 27 welcomes new members. If you have served at least one day of active military duty since December 7, 1941 and were honorably discharged or you are still serving active military duty honorably, you are eligible for membership with The American Legion.

Meetings are held in the Richmond Hill Senior Center next to the Fire Station on the third Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m.
