Glad Dogget, center left, secretary of the Womens Business Alliance of Richmond Hill, presents Kathy McCarthy, council director of Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia, with a $500 check from funds raised at the annual Hometown Expo in Richmond Hill. On hand to celebrate were the coaches and girls in the J.F. Gregory Park program.

Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia received a boost Monday from the Women’s Business Alliance of Richmond Hill.
The WBA donated $500 to Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia, a program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident through an experience-based curriculum that involves running.
According to Glad Dogget, secretary of WBA, the group chose Girls on the Run to support because of their influence on young women.
“We wanted to focus our support on a local group, and naturally this was an easy selection because they support girls doing athleticism, and it helps girls to promote leadership and confidence,” Dogget said.
The funds are from the WBA annual Hometown Expo held in February.
Kathy McCarthy, council director of Girls on the Run of Coastal Georgia, said the donation was greatly appreciated.
“Like every other non-profit organization, we rely on the support and generosity of the community and volunteers in the community,” McCarthy said. “To have this (donation) means we can continue encouraging girls to change the face of the community and to believe in themselves.”
The Girls on the Run J.F. Gregory program is one of 22 programs throughout the coastal counties of Bryan, Chatham, Liberty and Effingham. There are more than 700 girls involved.
The donation will likely be used for program materials and expenses, program scholarships and shoes for girls who cannot afford them, McCarthy said.
“Little girls with dreams are tomorrow’s women of vision, and we teach them to dream big,” McCarthy said.
