Theres definitely been a spike in shows about supernatural characters in the last two decades. Throwing the curveball element of Im a vampire! into teen romance intensifies everything tenfold, especially when the other involved party is a werewolf.

But not all of these characters are created equal; some are much more entertaining than others. See the best below.

VAMPIRES

Spike - "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

His Billy Idol look-alike status notwithstanding, Spike was one of the most interesting off-and-on members of the Scooby gang. Hes smooth and ruthless, till he falls in love with Buffy. Then hes smooth and conflicted, and that turns out to be just as good.

Where to stream: Netflix

Katherine Pierce - "The Vampire Diaries"

Katherine is a character you love to hate. As soon as Katherine is introduced as the lynchpin in the love triangle between the Salvatore brothers and the reason theyre both vampires she becomes one of the shows best villains. And she has amazing hair.

WEREWOLVES

Scott McCall - "Teen Wolf"

Look no further than this campy show for the best set of supernatural creatures around. Scott may not be the best looking wolf on the show (that would be Derek Hale), but he is certainly the sweetest. Bringing his friends together and keeping them safe is what makes him the Alpha of all our hearts.

Where to stream: Amazon Prime

Ruby/Red Riding Hood - "Once Upon A Time"

When youre the best friend of a wanted Snow White, being a werewolf can come in handy when its time to fight the evil queen. Although beautiful, Ruby is also powerful and strong, which is a cool message to send.

Where to stream: Netflix

GHOSTS

Danny Phantom - "Danny Phantom"

When his ghost-crazed parents invent a machine that turns Danny into a half-human, half-ghost-type of superhero, he takes it upon himself to stop the ghosts that come through the portal from messing things up for himself and his two quirky best friends. Memorably, this includes a ghost pop star that mesmerizes her audience with a catchy tune.

Where to stream: Hulu

WITCHES

Katrina Crane - "Sleepy Hollow"

Devastatingly beautiful, incredibly powerful and above all cunning, Katrina Crane kept everyone guessing for her entire tenure in Sleepy Hollow. Despite Ichabods initial reservations about her, his loyalty to his marriage won out until Katrina threatened his best friend Abbie.

Where to stream: Hulu

Sabrina Spellman - "Sabrina the Teenage Witch"

It doesnt get any better than this. Using talent juice to form the Backstreet Boys, and zap Britney Spears into your apartment inside the Eiffel Tower are just a couple of the antics a teen witch in the '90s could find herself getting into.

Where to stream: Hulu

MERMAIDS

Emma, Cleo and Rikki - "H20: Just Add Water"

Before Claire Holt was a vampire and Phoebe Tonkin was a werewolf on "The Originals," they played mermaids in this charming Australian show about three young teens who find themselves transformed into girls who have magical powers and shiny tails.
