DAYTONA BEACH, Florida A single dad who took his daughters locks into his own hands is now offering free hairstyling classes to other fathers looking to learn the art of the braid and ponytail.
Philippe Morgese has been a single father since his daughter, Emma, was just a year old. He found himself frustrated with the daily task of taming his daughters hair, so he turned to YouTube tutorials to teach himself how to jazz things up a bit, BuzzFeed reports.
What started as clips and simple ponytails quickly advanced to elaborate braiding and twists.
I love the time spent with her and she loves the cool hair, so its a win-win, Morgese told BuzzFeed.
Emma isnt the only one who appreciates her dads self-taught art. People began to take notice, and Morgese began to receive all kinds of questions and requests about his mad skills.
I get a lot of credit for doing her hair and hear compliments about my role as a father because of it, he told BuzzFeed. I want other dads to be able to experience that.
So Morgese turned to a local beauty school with a simple request: Would it be possible to use some space there to teach a free styling class to other dads in his position?
They loved the idea, and the Daddy Daughter Hair Factory was born. Morgese spread the word on Facebook, and seven daddy-daughter pairs showed up for the first class, which he said was a major success.
We had a small class full of dads that learned basic brushing, ponytails, braids and buns, Morgese wrote in a Reddit post. Im so proud of these dads for stepping up and building a better bond with their daughters.
Morgese included photos from the event with his post, which have since been viewed more than 2 million times. He says the experience has given him the confidence he needs to be a good dad, and hopes the other fathers who join him in this new endeavor will feel the same way.
I feel like the kudos have made me a better dad, he said. When you hear, You are such an awesome dad, you start to believe it and let go of the mistakes you make as a parent.
