A pair of Star Wars characters had an interaction not seen in the movies.
As the Deseret News reported, Disney recently launched a new series called Forces of Destiny, which focuses on multiple stories from throughout the Star Wars timeline.
Characters such as Princess Leia, Padme and Rey will make appearances throughout the show, which will focus on many of the Star Wars universes skilled women.
Mashable premiered an exclusive look at the episode Sands of Jakku, which features Rey (voiced by the live-action actor Daisy Ridley) and BB-8, the adorable droid seen in The Force Awakens.
Rey and BB-8 first met on Jakku at the opening of "The Force Awakens," with Rey telling the droid she wanted him to leave. She later changed her mind, and episode Sands of Jakku explains why.
Lupita Nyong'o, who plays Maz Kanata in the new Star Wars film, voices the same character in the video.
Dave Filoni, executive producer of the cartoon "Star Wars Rebels," said more episodes will have a similar feel with simple storytelling.
My hope is that you learn a little more about the wider world of Star Wars," Filoni added. "If something happens in 'Forces of Destiny,' it happens in that other universe too. The heart of the story would still be the same if you changed the medium."
When Lucasfilm announced the new series, CEO Kathleen Kennedy said she hopes the show will also inspire a new generation of fans.
'Star Wars Forces of Destiny' is for anyone who has been inspired by Leias heroism, Reys courage or Ahsoka's tenacity, Kennedy said, according to Variety. "Were thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars."
A new episode for the show will debut on YouTube at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. The show will later debut on the Disney Channel on July 9.
