KATHLEEN, Ga. A 3-year-old boy found his world in shambles when his dad came home missing a very important part of his essence his beard.
Little Patrick Hogan has only ever known his father as the guy with a face full of hair. So when he first saw the clean-shaven imposter, he burst into tears.
"He didn't recognize me at first until I started talking,'' Greg Hogan, Patricks dad, told Today. "He had this look I'd never seen before. I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction, and I had to reassure him that it was going to be OK."
Luckily for us, Hogan filmed his sons reaction to the change, which is hilariously heartbreaking.
Do you still love me? Hogan asks.
No! I want your beard, Patrick sobs.
The little boy was inconsolable, until his dad reassured him hed grow it back. Patricks reaction is even more endearing when you consider that he was the reason his dad decided to grow a beard in the first place.
Patrick was born with hemophilia, a rare disorder in which blood lacks clotting proteins, preventing it from clotting properly. His dad put away the razor in support of Beards for Bleeders, a campaign that aims to raise awareness for the disorder.
"If there's any type of issue where he bumps his head and bleeds, we have to take him to the ER for a CT scan, so in a house full of three boys, he has to be watched very carefully,'' Greg Hogan told Today. "It's become our new normal."
With a hot and humid Georgia summer on the horizon, Hogan decided it was time to say goodbye to the beard. He didnt realize the impact that decision would have on his son, or on his mission to help him.

"I grew the beard to raise awareness,'' Greg told Today. "I had no idea that shaving it off would actually raise more."
