Toastmaster convention in Savannah

Savannah will host the Georgia Toastmasters convention Friday-Sunday, May 7-9, at the Hyatt Regency on River Street.
Toastmasters has a large membership among the military, with clubs on several military bases and VA hospitals in Georgia. The Westside club in Savannah meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Pooler.
The convention’s keynote speaker, Les Brown, is a motivational speaker. Other event highlights include a tour of homes and a hat parade.
Toastmasters International seeks to develop leadership skills through structured training in public speaking. Club meetings give members opportunities to practice thinking, writing, speaking and delivering their messages with confidence and professionalism.
Georgia boasts numerous Toastmasters Clubs with several meeting locations. All clubs welcome guests.
“Toastmasters is a place for fun, friends and conquering the greatest fear: public speaking,” Savannah Toastmasters President Quentin Marlin said.
“When I joined Toastmasters 18 years ago and had to give a speech, my knees shook and my heart pounded,” local club member Bess Chappas said. “Now, I have been a professional storyteller for 15 years. I am happiest when I can speak to a group of people.”
