Trees, lights, festivities beckon Christmas

The Christmas tree outside Club Stewart will come to life at a lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Music will be performed by the 3rd ID Band, plus Liberty High School chorus and Bradwell Institute cheerleaders. Santa Claus will be available, so don’t forget your cameras. There’s no charge.

Brunch with Santa

Retirees and civilians are invited to join soldiers and their families for a brunch with Santa at the Club Stewart from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

The menu includes Southern breakfast favorites, bourbon glazed ham, beef tenderloin with béarnaise, the chef’s selection of side dishes and dessert.

Advance tickets cost $14.95 for adults and $6.45 for children through Thursday. After that, tickets cost $17.95 for adults and $7.45 for children. Children 2 and younger eat free.

Bingo-lingo class

Unlock the excitement of bingo by learning the basics (game patterns, etiquette and tips) at free classes from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 5-6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at Fort Stewart Bingo, adjacent to Club Stewart.

Girlfriend bowling night

Need a night out with the girls? Go bowling at Stewart Bowling Center from 3-8 p.m. Dec. 11. The cost is $1.75 per person.

Single-parent laser tag

Play laser tag with your kids from 3-6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Corkan Family Fun Center. The cost is $2 per person. Call 767-4273. 

 

Trees for Troops

Donated Christmas trees will be given out to soldiers and their families on a first-come basis at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 at Newman Fitness Center and Hunter Club.

BOSS soldiers will help with selections and prepare trees for the trip home. Military ID cards are required.

This is the eighth year the Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx have provided trees.

Turkey shoot

Use your weapon, or a range weapon in the Turkey Shoot from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Stewart Skeet/Trap Range at Holbrook Recreation Area.

Shells will be provided. Shooters may enter multiple rounds and will shoot from 25 yards. A turkey/ham gift certificate will be awarded in each round.

The cost is $5 per person for five to nine shooters, or $3 if there are 10 or more shooters.

Holiday festival

Holiday lights will transform Holbrook Pond Recreation Area for family hayrides Dec. 13-14. Rides begin at 6 p.m.

There will also be horse rides, a movie, kiddie train rides, s’mores and more. Plus, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there for visits and photos.

The 15 to 20-minute rides wind through a trail of Christmas and holiday scenes.

The hayride costs $1 per person. Children ages 2 and younger are free.

The Holbrook Pond display will remain until Dec. 26. Visitors are invited to drive through from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The drive-throughs are free.

 

Bowl with Santa

You can bowl with Santa from 3:30-6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Marne Bowling Center. Admission is free. Kids younger than 18 will receive gifts and can bowl for $1 per game. Bring your camera for photos.

Jaguars vs. Titans

Register by Dec. 16 for a Leisure Travel trip to watch Jacksonville battle Tennessee in Jacksonville on Dec. 22.

The $85 per person cost includes transportation and game admission.

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters by completing the SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 2-3.

The free course will be at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue.

Youth learn child care skills and get certified in first aid and CPR. Participants must attend both days to be certified.

Shotgun class

A Youth First Steps Shotgun Orientation Class will be from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Classroom training will be from 8-noon. Range time will be from 1-3. Shotguns, ammo and training material will be provided. Participants may bring their own weapon to fire. 

The cost is $30 per person. The maximum class size is 15.
