Stewart/Hunter getting ready for school

A Back-to-School Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 24 at Club Stewart is your chance to talk to representatives of DoDEA, local public, private and post secondary schools, as well as home schooling.

There is no charge.

On and off-post child and family agencies will also provide information about before- and after-school care. Fort Stewart Exchange will also showcase school uniforms and youth fashions.

Agencies that wish to participate, and others who want additional information, should call School Liaison at 767-6533.

Hunter's fair will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. help July 30 at Tominac Fitness Center. School supplies handed out.

Liberty schools registration

Military, school-age children can register for 2013-14 school year in Liberty County schools on July 25 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The day is to ease military families' transition into the system. All Liberty County schools will register students, give information, provide class assignments and schedules and answer school-related questions.

Documents needed are birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, medical screening, proof of residence, and previous report card/school transcripts.

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters in a SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. July 22-23. Teens should register by July 19.

The course is free and will be at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue. Participants must attend both days to become certified. Register at CYSS Parent Central Services, call 767-2312/4831.

 

Mini indoor triathlons

Athletes are invited to compete in Newman Fitness Center’s first Mini Indoor Triathlon July 22-24. Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter Army Airfield will have its from July 22-26.

There’s no charge to enter, and the top male and top female contestants will win prizes.

Timed events will be 10 minutes for swimming in the lap pool and run on treadmill, plus 20 minutes on a stationary bike ride. Open to all military ID cardholders 17 and older.

Football camp

CYSS-registered youth (ages 7-12) can learn techniques and fundamentals of football during the Dog Days of the Marne Football Camp, 9 a.m.-noon July 25-27.

The camp is free and will be at the Youth Sports Football Field Complex. Registration closes July 20.

Movie in the Park

Disney's "Oz the Great & Powerful" (PG) will be the next Movie in the Park July 26 at the Holbrook Pond Recreation Area. It is free, begins at 9 p.m. and isopen to all military ID cardholders and guest. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Punt, Pass & Kick

Registration for the NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition runs through 9 a.m. July 27 at the Youth Sports Football Complex on Greene Street.

Boys and girls ages 6-15 will participate in all three events for a score and a chance to advance to the sectional competition.   

Participants may register online at http://www.nflppk.com/, or at Youth Sports and Fitness Center. A birth certificate must be provided prior to competing.

Only gym shoes can be worn for competition. For more information, call 767-1428.

 

Long range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons July 27 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. No pistols or shotguns permitted. Targets will be at 100 to 1,000 meters.

Pool hour changes

Reopening of schools in Liberty and Chatham counties will bring a change in schedule for the outdoor swimming pools at Fort Stewart and Hunter.

The Bryan Village pool will close for the season on Aug. 5. Effective Aug. 7, Corkan outdoor pool will operate from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays until the day after Labor Day, when the pool will close.

On Aug. 12 the Hunter Outdoor Pool will be open Saturdays and Sundays only from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. until the day after Labor Day, when the pool will close for the season.

Ten-Miler qualifier

Represent the 3rd ID in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., Oct. 20 by being one of the top three men or women finishers in a qualifier race at Donovan Field, Fort Stewart.

Only active duty may qualify, but Family Members are welcome to participate.

The qualifier begins at 5 a.m. Aug. 17. Runners can register from 4-4:45 a.m. at the field, or call the Sports Office, 767-8238, to sign up in advance.
