Soldiers' kids can get free school supplies

The 2015 U.S. Army Soldier Show will be staged on Hunter Army Airfield July 23 and again on Fort Stewart July 26.

The link to register for free school supplies, to be given out at upcoming Back to School and Community Activities, Information and Registration Fairs at Stewart and Hunter, has been changed. To register, go to events.operationhomefront.net .

The supplies, provided by Operation Home Front, will be available only to children of soldiers E1-E6. Registration will be accepted until all available slots are filled. The fairs will start at 10 a.m. July 28 at Newman Fitness Center on Stewart, and at 10 a.m. July 30 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter. For more information, call 767-6212.

 

Pools close for work

Installation of energy saving pool covers will necessitate the temporary closing of Hunter/Stewart’s indoor pools during July. The scheduled closing are: Johnson Fitness Center, July 6-13; Newman Fitness Center Pool, July 14-19; and Tominac Fitness Center, July 20-24.

 

Shipwreck Island

Spend July 25 at Adventure Landing's Shipwreck Island Water Park in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. The $45 per person cost includes transportation and unlimited access to the water park and the choice of three other attractions, including go-karts, laser tag, miniature golf and rides. Foot golf league

Company-level competition in foot golf, the game that combines soccer and golf, begins the week of July 13 at Hunter Golf Course. Companies can enter by submitting a memo at Squires Sports Complex by Friday. Games will be played Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. The cost is $5 per player per match, with minimum of two-player and maximum of four-player teams. Players must provide their own size 5 soccer ball, or balls can be rented through Hunter Golf for $3 each. For more information, call 315-4160.

 

‘Jungle Book’

Tickets are on sale for the Stewart/Hunter Community Theatre’s action-packed adaptation of Kipling's classic adventure story, "The Jungle Book." Performances, at Woodruff Theater, are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. July 17 and 3 and 6 p.m. July 19.

Youth fall soccer

Registration for youth fall soccer runs through July 30. Practices beginning in mid-August and play starts in late September at Hunter Youth Sports and Savannah YMCA fields. Soldier Show

The 2015 U.S. Army Soldier Show, a Broadway-style musical revue that showcases the talents of active duty, Army Reserve and Army National Guard soldiers, will be at Hunter’s Tominac Fitness Center at 7 p.m. July 23. Doors open at 6:30.

The show repeats at Stewart’s Newman Fitness Center at 4 p.m. July 26.

Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Storytime Soldier Show stars

Performers with Army Entertainment’s 2015 U.S. Army Soldier Show will read to children during a George P. Hays Library Storytime at 3 p.m. July 24. There’s no charge. For more information, call 767-2828.

 

Plantation tour

Take a self-guided tour of Middleton Place, a restored rice plantation on the Ashley River at Charleston, South Carolina, on this Leisure Travel trip Aug. 22. Register by Aug. 14. Liberty schools registration

Liberty County Schools Military Registration Day will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 27 at the schools. To ease military families into Liberty County schools, all the schools will register students, provide information, give class assignments and schedules, and answer questions for the 2015-16 school year.
