New hours at Newman, Caro and Jordan fitness centers on Fort Stewart take effect Monday.

Newman will extend its hours until 9 p.m. Monday-Friday; Caro will open at 5 a.m. Monday-Friday; and Jordan will be closed on weekends. For more information, call the fitness center involved.

 

Health fair at Hunter

An Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair will be 9 a.m.-to 1 p.m. Saturday at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter Army Airfield. It's free.

The Aerobic-Thon samples various aerobic styles taught by certified instructors. Styles include kick-boxing, step, zumba and more.

The Health Fair will begin at 9 a.m. and feature fitness assessments, including body fat measurement, nutritional information and health screenings.

Soldiers, retirees, family members and civilians are invited. Call 315-5078 for more information.

 

Salsa at Rocky’s

Club Night, featuring the Sal Pal Son salsa band, will be 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Saturday at Rocky’s Zone. It is open to ID cardholders and guests.

The soldier or guest judged by the audience to be the best-dressed in Latin attire will win a prize. The dance floor will be open.

The cost is $5 per person. Drink specials and snacks will be available. Patrons must be 18 to get in and 21 to buy drinks.

Hog hunt

Registration runs through Sunday for an Outdoor Recreation Division tree-stand, managed hog hunt on Feb. 2.

Applications will be taken at Pass & Permit Offices on Fort Stewart and Hunter. The hunt is for active duty and retirees.

Fifty slots are available with five reserved for retirees.

Participants will be selected by drawing at 2 p.m. on Jan. 28.

There will be morning and afternoon hunts. Participants must bring their own lunch. Game check and cleaning station will be provided by Fish and Wildlife. A $10 per hunter fee is payable upon selection. Assistance also is provided by DES game wardens.

Youth spring sports

Fort Stewart Youth Sports is enrolling track and field (ages 7-14 as of March 1) and soccer (4-13 as of Dec. 31) until Feb. 15. Call Parent Central Services at 767-2312 or stop by Building 442 to join a team. The cost is $30 per child.

Also, volunteer coaches are needed. For more information on coaching, call Youth Sports at 767-4371/9270.

 

Freedom Trail tour

Register by Feb. 2 for Leisure Travel’s Freedom Trail Tour in Savannah at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 9.

See the remnants of the Underground Railroad, a market where slaves were bought and sold, and the Savannah African American Monument.

'Ice Age: Continental Drift'

"Ice Age: Continental Drift" will be the Dive-In Movie at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Tominac Fitness Center’s indoor pool. See Manny, Diego, and Sid another adventure after their continent is set adrift.

Mardi Gras at Thunder Run

Enjoy a taste of Mardi Gras from 8-midnight on Feb. 8 at Thunder Run.

The evening includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and live zydeco and Cajun music, plus various casino games such as infinity bingo, blackjack and Texas hold’em. Admission is $25 per person or $40 per couple in advance; $30 per person, $50 per couple at the door.

Paula Deen tour

Register by Feb. 15 for a Paula Deen tour in Savannah. Hear her rags-to-riches story on this Leisure Travel trip March 2 at 3:30 p.m.

The narrated trip through Savannah’s Historic and Victorian Districts goes to points of interest related to Deen's story and dine at her Lady & Sons restaurant.

Daytona 500

Register by Feb. 15 for a Leisure Travel trip to see the Daytona 500, featuring 43 of the best stock car drivers in the world.

The 55thrunning of NASCAR’s biggest, richest and most prestigious race will be on Feb. 24.

Cost is $85 per person and includes transportation on a motor coach bus and tailgate party before and after the race. Race tickets are sold separate.

Facebook education forum

A DoDEA/Liberty County Schools Facebook Education Forum is scheduled 5-6 p.m. Feb. 21. Representatives from the schools will answer questions.
