On post pools to open Memorial Day weekend

The third of four catch-and-release Marne Trail Bass Tournaments this season will be at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Sands Pond in Evans County.

Cash prizes are $250 for first-place (total weight, five-fish per person) and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes awarded after weigh-in at 11 a.m. The fee is $25 for soldiers, retirees and their family members and youth 15 and younger), $35 for civilians.

Commander’s scramble

Enjoy golf, camaraderie and team-building during the Commander's Scramble May 26 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Start time is 1 p.m. The cost of $30 for members and $35 for others includes greens and cart fees, range balls, mulligans, lunch, course contest and prizes. Outdoor pools

Stewart/Hunter outdoor swimming pools open Memorial Day weekend, starting May 27, for the season. At Stewart, Corkan outdoor pool, will be open Thursday-Monday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays) and Bryan Village Pool will open weekends only 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Hunter outdoor swimming pool and water spray park, behind Hunter Club, will be open Thursday-Monday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays).

Pricing is:

Daily, $4 per person (Kids under 4 admitted free)

Season family pass: $80 - E1-E4; $90 - E5-E6, W1, W2, O1, O2; $110 E7-E8 O3,O4; $130 all other ranks and DoD employees.

Cardboard Boat Regatta

Using only cardboard and duct tape, participants must build a boat that will take a two-person crew the length of Hunter’s outdoor pool. The regatta begins at 1 p.m. May 27, opening day for the pool and spray park. There is no charge to enter. However, regular fees apply to enter the pool. Paddles provided. Prizes in three categories: kid/kid, adult/adult, adult/kid. There also will be a prize for best decorated boat. For information, call 912-315-5078. 

 

Movies Under the Stars

The Holbrook Pond Movies Under the Stars series opens May 27 with “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” (PG13). The movies are free and begin 15 minutes after sunset. Jaguar tickets

Tickets for Jacksonville Jaguars home games go on sale June 1 at the Stewart/Hunter Leisure Travel offices. Prices will vary according to the game. The Jaguars play home games at EverBank Field. They open the 2017-18 exhibition season in Jacksonville on Aug. 17 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the regular season at home Sept. 17 against the Tennessee Titans. The Fort Stewart Leisure Travel Office (912-767-2841) is in the PX Furniture Mall Complex. The Hunter office (912-315-3674) is in the Hunter PX Exchange.

 

Summer reading

Registration begins June 1 for the Summer Reading Program 2017 at George P. Hays Library. It is free for children in kindergarten through the 8th grade. Theme is “Reading by Design.” Participants will receive prizes as they reach reading milestones and the library will have contests, with prizes, for readers based on STEM activities. Boss toad trip

Cool off on the BOSS Road Trippin’ visit to the Summer Waves Water Park on Jekyll Island in June. Cost of $15 per person covers transportation and admission. All-Army Race

Earn the honor of representing the 3rd ID in the 33rdAnnual Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., Oct. 8 by being a top finisher June 17 in a qualifier race on Donovan Field. Two women and four men will qualify. Only active duty may qualify, but family, retirees and DOD civilians are welcome to run. The qualifier begins at 6 a.m. Runners can register beginning at 5 at Donovan. For more information, call 912-767-8238.

 

Taylors Creek championship 

The Taylors Creek Club Championship, featuring four divisions, will be played Saturday-Sunday, June 10-11, at the par-72 Taylors Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart. The tournament is open to the public.

PGA professional John Fesperman Jr. said all players will be given a tee time. Champions will be crowned in the men's, women's, senior (50-59) and super senior (60 and older) divisions.

The cost of $75 per player includes greens fee, cart fee, range balls, prizes and lunch on Sunday. Players are asked to register before June 8.
