Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is the featured film for a Movie Under the Stars evening at the large pavilion on the north side of Holbrook Pond starting at 8 p.m. Oct. 26.

The film is rated PG. It is free. Don’t forget to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Popcorn, hotdogs and drinks will be available for purchase.

Pumpkin carving class

Pick out a great pumpkin, then load up the family and come out to Holbrook Pond for a class on how to carve that pumpkin like a pro.

The free class will be from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the large pavilion on the north side of Holbrook Pond. Call 435-8213 for more information.

 

Halloween bowling

Want to bowl a few games before celebrating Halloween? Hunter Lanes is offering a Halloween special from 2-6 p.m. Oct. 27. Treats will be given to kids and the cost to bowl will be $1 per game, with $1 shoe rental. Call 315-6279 for more information.

 

Murder mystery dinner

Tickets are on sale for “Clue: the Musical,” based on the Parker Brothers board game. Tickets are $25 per person or $175 for a table of eight. The price includes a family-style dinner.

The show will be presented at Thunder Run in Club on Stewart at 7 p.m. Nov. 2.

The dinner theater performance is sponsored by FMWR, in partnership with the Hinesville Area Arts Council.

Tickets are on sale at Club Stewart, the Leisure Travel office in the PX Furniture Mall and at the main Heritage Bank office on Main Street in Hinesville.

“The Rock” bodybuilding contest

“The Rock” Bodybuilding and Figures Contest Nov. 3 at Woodruff Theater recognizes the rigorous training that Stewart/Hunter soldiers, families and civilians have invested in the sport.

Weigh-in will be from 8-9 a.m. and pre-judging at 10 a.m. Finals will be at 6:30 p.m.

Each contestant will be judged on muscularity, symmetry, posing with and without music. Awards and trophies will be given for first to third place in seven divisions: open men, women, and figure, plus masters men and women (over 40), novice men and teen men. 

Competition is open to military ID cardholders (17 and older) and civilians. Entry fees are $35, plus $15 for crossovers. The cost for spectators is $2 during pre-judging and $5 for the finals.

Golf 4 Life

Golf 4 Life clinics at Hunter Golf Club have been extended with sessions scheduled from 9-10 a.m. on Nov. 3, Dec. 15, Jan. 12 and Feb. 9. All are free.

This is for golfers and beginners. The clinics cover all areas of golf and are open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a friend.

Wildlife Photo Contest

Registration is open until Nov. 9 for the 2012 Wildlife Photo Contest for amateur photographers at Fort Stewart and Hunter.

Photograph entries must be turned in to Stewart or Hunter Pass and Permit office.Entry fees are $5 per photo (ages 4-15) and $10 per photo (16 and up).

Unit level basketball

Registration is under way for the 2012 Hunter unit level basketball season. Play begins Nov. 6 at Tominac Fitness Center. Unit rosters are due at the Sports Office by Friday. There is no charge to play. Games are played Monday-Friday at 6 p.m.

Company level basketball

Registration will continue until Nov. 21 for company level basketball league at Fort Stewart. There is no charge to play.

Companies interested in playing need to submit a letter of intent to play to the Sports Office in the Bennett Sports Complex.

Games will be played at Newman Fitness Center beginning Dec. 3.
