Mother's Day at Corkan

Foot-golf scramble

Lt. Col. Will Bowman invites everyone to the inaugural Garrison Commander’s Foot Golf Scramble at 9 a.m. Friday.

The 18-hole layout is adjacent to the front nine on Hunter Golf Course.

The cost for the 4-person scramble is $25 per person. Rules are similar to regular golf. Indoor or turf shoes permitted, but not cleats.

‘Jungle Book’ auditions

Brews and Bites

The 75thAnniversary Brews and Bites, named to celebrate establishment of Fort Stewart/Hunter, will be at 5 p.m. May 15 at Hunter Club.

Give your taste buds a treat at four stations of hors d’oeuvres paired with featured brews from Service Brewing Co. of Savannah. A company sommelier will be on hand.

Advance tickets cost $25 per person until May 12 at Club Stewart or Hunter Club. Then go up to $30. The event can accommodate 100 persons. The public is welcome.

Pizza party

Celebrate National Pizza Party Day May 15 from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. at Stewart Bowling Center with two hours of bowling for six bowlers on one lane, plus a 16-inch, one topping pizza and refillable soda pitcher for $29.95. Regular price is $49.95 on Fridays. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Movies Under the Stars

The first showing in the popular Holbrook Movies Under the Stars series will be May 16 at 8:30 p.m. withe “Big Hero 6.” The PG-rated film lasts 93 minutes.

There’s no charge. Bring your own chairs and blankets. A vendor will sell popcorn and drinks.

Hunter Duathlon

Run and ride on ground that is part of the history of Hunter’s service to America.

Hunter Army Airfield 75th Anniversary Duathlon 5K Run, starts at 8 a.m. May 16. It consists of a 5K run on the flight line, a 10-mile bicycle ride around the post and a 3K run around the headquarters.

The event also will have static military displays, band music and food vendors. Civilians are invited to take part.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall male/female runners. Awards will be present to the top two winners in each age group. T-shirts will be given to pre-registered runners.

Registration is under way at www.runsignup.com. The cost is $35 per person until May 11 and $40 on the day of the event.

Kids run

Non-competitive runs, as part of Armed Forces Day, start at 9 a.m. May 16 at Jordan Fitness Center on Stewart and at 9 a.m. May 30 at Stephen Douglas Street and North Perimeter Road on Hunter.

The Hunter run originally was scheduled for May 16, but changed because of the Hunter 75th Anniversary Duathlon.

The youth runs are for ages 5-13. Ages 5-6 will run five-tenths of a mile, ages 7-8 one mile and ages 9-13 two miles. There’s no charge, and T-shirts will be given to all youth runners. Parents may run with children.

Summer Waves

Splashpark opens

The Springs Splashpark at Cypress Creek opens May 18 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., weather permitting.

Admission is $2 per person (3 and older). Younger children get in free with paying adult. Swimmer diapers are required for children not potty trained. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Pool schedules

May 23 is opening day for the Corkan and Bryan Village outdoor pools at Stewart and the Hunter outdoor pool and water spray park. Hours will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on opening day as well as on May 24 and on Memorial Day.

The price is $3 daily or $80 for a season pass. Children 4 and younger free. Passes can be purchased at any pool.

Also effective May 23, the Newman and Tominac indoor pools will be closed on weekends. They will be open for military and fitness training Monday-Friday only from 5 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information, call the Corkan pool (767-8575), Bryan Village pool (767-2701) or Hunter pool (315-5786).

 

Swamp trip

Explore the Okefenokee Swamp Park at Waycross with Leisure Travel on May 30. Register by May 18. The cost is $25 per person for transportation and admission. Bass tournament

Anglers are invited to compete for prizes May 30 in the third of four catch-and-release bass tournaments. Fishing begins about 6:30 a.m. Cash prizes for heaviest combinations of up to five bass.

Fish from the bank or bass boat (trolling motors only). Boat rentals available at Holbrook Equipment Center.

Georgia and FS/HAAF fishing permit reuired, unless 15 and younger.

Registration is ongoing and is open to soldiers, family members, retirees and civilians.

North Carolina weekend

Visit an Native American village, see their arts and crafts, dancing and tour the museum while learning about the Trail of Tears during a weekend trip to Cherokee, N.C., June 12-14.

Other activities will include a night at Harrah’s Casino and a stop at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville Sunday. The cost is $600 for up to four people per room. Fee includes transportation and a two-night stay at the Cherokee Grand Hotel. Biltmore tour is additional cost.

Cosmic Bowling
