Library sets summer reading program

On June 4 at 9:30 a.m., the Military Child Education Coalition staff will present the last Storytime program at George P. Hays Library until fall.

Children up to age 12 are invited to hear stories and make crafts. The program is free.

Superman birthday

Children up to age 12 are invited to celebrate 75 years of Superman Comics from 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 6 at library. Children will make crafts of their own superhero. The program is free.

Farewell golf scramble 

A golf scramble honoring Lt. Col. Edward Kovaleski and CSM Stanley Hood as they move on to their next assignment will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start June 7 at Hunter Golf Course.

Participants are asked to register by June 5.

The $40 per person entry fee includes greens and cart fees, range balls and light lunch. First Command is sponsor for the event. For more information, call 315-9115.

 

Kids fishing

Kids (ages 15 and under) of military ID cardholders are invited to catch a mess of up to five catfish in the Kids Fishing Event from 7-10 a.m. June 8 at Pond 30, off Highway 144. Participants may register at the site.

Permit and state fishing license fees are waived and there’s no charge to fish.

Door prizes will be given out, and kids in three age groups can win prizes for the largest catfish. A limited amount of bait and poles will be available to borrow on a first-come basis. A casting competition will be presented by the Liberty County Bass Club.

The event is sponsored by Fort Stewart Fish and Wildlife and game wardens, USA Discounters, Coca-Cola, Veterans United Home Loans, Omni Financial, Navy Federal Credit Union, First Command Financial Services, and Richmond Hill Hatchery.

Summer reading

“Have Book Will Travel” is the theme for the Summer Reading Program, for children up to age 12 at George P. Hays Library.

The program will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 13 and every Thursday in June, as well as on July 11. Library bags, T-shirts and prizes will be handed out at registration on June 13.

Children are invited to hear stories, enjoy activities, and make crafts. There is no charge. For more information, call 767-2828.

 

Paintball tournament

A Paintball Team Tactical Scenario Tournament will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 15 at the Holbrook Recreation Area.

Register now or at the event at Holbrook Center, the paintball facility, or at FMWR Outdoor Recreation Office.

The cost is $100 per 5-8 player team. Payment is due at registration.

First-place prize $250. Second place prize $150. Winners will be determined by completion of scenario and points. All DoD ID cardholders and their guest may enter.

Players may use their own equipment, but paint will be supplied by FMWR. A minimum of 10 teams must compete for the tournament to be held. The maximum number of teams will be 25.

Skeet shoot

Hunter Army Airfield’s Skeet and Trap Quarterly Shoot has been set for 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 15 at the skeet range off South Perimeter Road.

Register by June 13 for the 50-bird skeet and 50-bird trap shoot at the range or at Outdoor Recreation Center. The cost is $25 for one event or $40 for both.

Food will be provided. First- and second-place prizes will be awarded in novice, intermediate, expert and trap divisions. The shoot is sponsored by Mossy Oak Gun Club. For more information, call 315-9554/9354/9250.

 

Father’s Day brunch

Make June 16 special for dad at the Father’s Day Brunch from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Club Stewart. The menu includes an omelet bar and carving station. Everyone is welcome.

Buying tickets in advance at the club Stewart. Adult prices are $14.95 in advance or $17.95 at the door; Children are $6.45 in advance, or $7.45 at the door. Children 4 and under are free.

Junior Golf Camps

Junior Golf Camps for youth 7-15 of all skill levels, are set for Fort Stewart and Hunter golf courses. Putting mechanics, approach shots, course rules, and etiquette will be among the topics covered. The cost for each is $75 per junior golfer.

The camp at Hunter will be conducted from 10 a.m.-noon June 17 and June 18. Space is limited, and youth are asked to sign up by June 14.

Taylors Creek Golf Course's camp will be 10 a.m.-noon on June 24 and June 25.

Juniors are encouraged to bring their own equipment. However, clubs will be provided for those who do not have their own.
