Holiday light tour continues

The holiday lighting that has delighted families visiting Holbrook Pond Recreation Area off Highway 144 continues until Dec. 26. Visitors are invited to drive through, at no charge, from 6-9 nightly.

 

Dinner and bowling

Families are invited to a discounted dinner and bowling from noon-7 p.m. Dec. 29 at Stewart Bowling Center.

For $30, a family of five gets 10 games bowling and 5 shoe rentals, along with the famous Bowling Supreme Pizza and refillable drink.

New Year’s at Club Stewart 

Welcome 2014 at the New Year's Eve Extravaganza at Club Stewart’s Ballroom and Thunder Run.

The extravaganza, from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., features the local band 3rd Class Citizens plus DJ Freak Show playing old school hits.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $30 at door and are on sale at Club Stewart and Leisure Travel. 

The price includes a midnight champagne toast, party hats, favors and a balloon drop. Food items for sale will include wings, samplers for two and breakfast in a cup. 

Tow-2-Go will be available as a safe option to get home, within a 10 miles. It will be available to both AAA members and non-members. Taxi telephone numbers will also be posted.

Extreme Wall Climbing

The annual Extreme Wall Climbing Challenge starts Jan. 1 at Corkan Family Fun Center. Winners will be crowned in three age categories. Winners receive one year free climbing room admission.

The challenge is to climb, during normal business hours, all routes available. Cost is $5 per hour. The contest continues until those who master all routes, except the lead course.

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters in a SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 2 and 3.

The free course at SKIES Unlimited, on Davis Avenue teaches basic child care and first aid and CPR. Participants must attend both days to become certified.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians, and civilian guests can sight-in large caliber weapons Jan. 11 from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo off Highway 119.

Bring your rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. No pistols or shotguns permitted. Targets are at 100 to 1,000 meters. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. Register at the Pass & Permit Office or onsite.

Shotgun orientation

A Youth First Steps Shotgun Orientation Class to introduce firearms safety, handling and shooting skills, will be 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Classroom training will be from 8-noon. Range time will be 1-3 p.m.. Shotguns, ammo and training material will be provided. Participants may bring their own weapon.

The cost will be $30 per person. The maximum class size is 15. Open to ages 10-16.

Health fair

Set your 2014 fitness goals during a free Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Newman Fitness Center.

Sample all types of aerobics classes. The Fair features fitness assessments, nutritional information and screenings. Plus, you can sign up for the 10-pound Challenge to get rid of weight you might have gained over the holidays.

NBA and Battle of Bands

Travel with BOSS to Atlanta to watch the Hawks square off against the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 24.

Then, watch the 12thannual Honda Battle of the Bands competition on Jan. 25.

The cost is $190 per person. Tickets are limited, and registration will end on Jan. 17. Sign up at PX Furniture Mall Complex on Stewart or Leisure Travel on Hunter.
