Blues artist Janiva Magness will play a free concert in Hinesville Friday.

The Hinesville Area Arts Council's Concert in the Park be from 7-9:30 p.m. in Bradwell Park.

“We are excited to bring an artist of such immense talent and magnitude to Liberty County,” HAAC Chairwoman Leah Poole said. “We know this will be an enjoyable show, and we hope to have an enthusiastic crowd to welcome her.”

During her tenure in blues and roots music, Magness has won four Blues Music Award for “contemporary blues female artist of the year” plus the “B.B. King entertainer of the year,” only the second female to have ever earned that honor.

Magness released her debut album in 1992 and since has honed her craft to become a staple of summer festivals. Living Blues Magazine has said, “Magness’ voice remains incredibly rich and soulful, and her delivery is expert-tattered or raw or robust in all the right places.”

The concert is a precursor to the 11thannual Blues and BBQ Festival on Sept. 20, featuring 3rdClass Citizens, Jimmy Wayne Renfro and the HouseShakers, and Bobby G, founder of the Bobby G Band. He has appeared or toured with James Peterson, Diamond Teeth Mary, The Outfield, Nazareth, Pat Travers, BB King and Buddy Guy. His 2006 solo CD “Smokey Mountain Blues” sold 32,000 copies on his independent label.

“We want to expand our festival and make it even better this year," Poole said. "Having a concert with Janiva reminds folks that art manifests in many ways, and we’re here to promote art and artists by hosting events like the Concert in the Park and the Blues & BBQ Festival.”
