Fort Morris State Historic Site will hold a “Native Americans and the American Revolution” event from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 30. The celebration will commemorate the battle of Jan. 9, 1779, when British Gen. Augustine Prevost launched an assault on the fort, which was surrendered the next day.
During the March 30 event, Jim Sawgrass of the Muskogee Creek Indian Tribe will give two presentations on Native-American life. He will focus on their tools, weapons and their role in the American Revolution. Sawgrass has been speaking about Native-American life to groups of all ages across the Southeast for more than 25 years.
Admission to the event is $3-$4.50. The fort is at 2559 Fort Morris Road in Midway.
