Dinner and Moview features 'Chocolat'

A military job fair, providing opportunities for active duty, spouses, reservists, veterans, retirees and civilians to explore a range of national and regional employment prospects, is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at Club Stewart.

Dinner and movie

Enjoy “Chocolat,” a whimsical movie nominated for five Academy Awards and four Golden Globes, and a three-course meal at Club Stewart’s Dinner & a Movie Friday.

The cost is $25 per person. Social hour, with all-you-can-eat appetizers, begins at 6. Dinner and the movie start at 7.

Also Friday, Parents Night Out for all CYSS users and those who may wish to attend Dinner and a Movie will be at CDC’s 403 at Stewart and 1284 at Hunter, as well as the Stewart School Age Center. The cost is $25 per child.

Movie Under the Stars

“Inside Out,” Pixar’s critically acclaimed animated film, will be shown Saturday in the Movies Under the Stars series at Holbrook Pond on Fort Stewart. Emotions run wild in the mind of a girl who is uprooted from her peaceful life in the Midwest and forced to move to San Francisco in this PG film.

The movie is free and starts at sundown. Popcorn and drinks will be on sale. Bring chairs or blankets.

Pay-per-view fight

Watch welterweights Nick Diaz and Conor McGregor battle live on pay-per-view Saturday at Club Stewart. Doors open at 7 p.m. for a packed fight card. Admission is free. Open to those 18 and older.

Sesame Street coming

Sesame Street and its fuzzy and friendly characters are coming to Newman Fitness Center for shows at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23. The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Family shows are free, but seating is limited. Advance tickets can be picked up at Stewart-Hunter Leisure Travel offices and Stewart Bowling Center. Katie, a military kid who is PCS-ing to a new base, is featured in the 40-minute show. She’s joined by loved characters such as Cookie Monster, Rosita, Elmo, Grover and Honker. Golf scramble

Form a four-person team or join one for a Commanders Golf Scramble on Aug. 26 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Shotgun start at 1 p.m. All are welcome. The $45 per person entry fee includes green fees, golf cart, range balls, mulligans and prizes. For more information, call 912-767-2370.

 

Physique competition

An open competition Aug. 27 at Woodruff Theater is for bodybuilders who are at least 17 years old. There will be male and female weight classes. Registration/weigh-in is 8-9 a.m.; pre-judging at 10 and finals at 6 p.m. Awards presented to top three winners in each division. Cost is $45 per contestant. Crossover fee is $15 additional. Dinner and bowling

Families are invited to a dinner and bowling special from 2-7 p.m. Aug. 29 at Stewart Bowling Center. For $30, a family of five gets two games per person, shoe rental, and dinner (lasagna, salad, roll and a drink). For more information, call 912-767-4273.

 

Free golf at Hunter

Hunter Golf Course, with its re-grassed greens and live oak-lined fairways, is offering a free round of golf with cart, every Monday after 10 a.m. during August. All, including civilians, are welcome. A tee time is required and can be obtained by calling 912-315-9115. There’s no other obligation.

 

Youth football, cheerleading

Registration is being accepted at Parent Central Services, 912-767-2312, for tackle football (ages 7-12) and cheerleading (6-13). The cost for football is $65 per person and the cost for cheer is $40 per person. Registration will be accepted until all slots are filled. “Shake it Off” yoga

Youth Sports, at 946 Austin Road, is offering a “Shake It Off” yoga class free to CYSS-registered youth on Wednesdays from 5-6:15 p.m. Youth 11-18 will learn about yoga and how to develop the life-long skill of calming the mind while stretching and strengthening muscles. League bowling

Whether you are a youth or a senior, an avid bowler or a beginner, Marne Bowling Center has a league for you. Leagues are now forming. Play begins the second week of September and continues until April. Flag football

Rosters are being accepted for Stewart/Hunter Intramural Flag Football for soldiers. Team rosters should be turned into the Stewart Sports Complex or Squires Sports Complex by Aug. 26. “Big Game” bingo

The Big Game at Stewart Bingo, adjacent to Club Stewart, and Hunter Bingo, adjacent to Hunter Club, on Sept. 3 gives players a chance to win $32,000 in prizes. Event features nine $1,800 games and a $13,000 coverall. Lightning Round from 1-4 p.m., with the main event beginning at 7. Take advantage of earlybird prices through Aug. 29. Fitness centers hours

To accommodate customers who work early in the day, the weekend hours at Stewart/Hunter fitness centers will change during the first weekend of September. Caro Fitness Center will be closed Sundays beginning Sept. 4. Caro’s hours on Saturdays (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) will remain the same. Effective Sept. 3, Newman Fitness Center will be open Saturdays 8 a.m-9 p.m. and Sundays 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Johnson Fitness Center will be open Saturdays 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
