SAVANNAH — December Nights and Holiday Lights encompasses more than 6 acres of the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens, from the new visitors center to the rose garden, orchid house, crape myrtle allee, white garden and beyond.

Enjoy more than a half-million sparkling lights on select evenings.

Embark on a casual, self-guided walking tour through themed garden areas. View white reindeer among green-glistening timber bamboo, an 18-foot holly Christmas tree, an allee of glistening trees, a rainbow arch-tunnel, a Nativity scene, trumpeting angels, an illuminated fountain in the rose garden, glowing willow trees, giant red poinsettias and a candy-inspired children’s experience for just a sampling.

New this year is the addition of a model-train display under the conference center’s cathedral ceiling. This choo-choo experience is presented by the Coastal Rail Buffs and is included in the Holiday Lights admission.

Seasonal music also fills the air, sometimes with live performances by area vocal or instrumental groups in the Great Hall of the visitors’ center. Visit with Santa Claus and take photos from 7-8 p.m. on Saturdays in the gazebo of the cottage garden. Mrs. Claus will stop by to lead a storytime for kids at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 and 23 at Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen in the annex.

If you’re hankering for some snacks, stop by Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen. Area 4-H groups or other nonprofits will have goodies and hot drinks for purchase, and all proceeds go to their various programs.

The majority of the Holiday Lights experience is stroller- and wheelchair-friendly (there are two illuminated lawn areas). Visit December Nights and Holiday Lights through Sunday and Dec. 16-24 from 6-9 p.m. Rain may lead to closure for the night.

Tickets are $8 per person for ages 13 and older, $5 for children ages 3-12 years, and free for children age 2 and younger. On Wednesday nights, tickets are $5 per person for everyone age 3 and older.
