SAVANNAH - Producers of the "Cops" television show say they've been filming in Savannah for an upcoming season.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/naMTCC ) that it's the first time Savannah has been the backdrop for episodes of the show since it began airing in 1989.

Show producer Zach Ragsdale said Savannah was selected for the show's new season because of its unique and picturesque setting.

Two film crews were embedded with Savannah-Chatham police for six weeks starting in mid-May. The Morning News reports that they wrapped up filming as crime spiked during a record-breaking streak of hot weather at the end of June.

Officials say footage from Savannah will be interspersed with video shot in three other cities during the upcoming season of Cops.
