Blood drive

A Pembroke community blood drive will be held today from 2-7 p.m. at the Pembroke United Methodist Church, 102 N. College Street.

Dreaming of a getaway? Give blood and go. Participate in donating blood or platelets before Dec. 31 and enter a drawing to win one of three pairs of round trip Delta Air Lines tickets. For more information call the American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-Life (448-3543).

 

Tour of homes

This year’s Richmond Hill Holiday Tour of Homes will be held on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 6, from 1-5 p.m. The five private homes will be lavishly decorated for the holidays, each expressing the individual homeowner’s special flair. Also in this tour will be "The Rabbit Hill Diner," a unique building outfitted with Coca Cola memorabilia, St. Anne Historical Chapel, and the Richmond Hill Historical Society Museum.

Proceeds from ticket sales are shared by the five sponsoring civic organizations: Arts on the Coast, the Richmond Hill Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Garden Club, and St. Anne CCW, and are used for programs to benefit the Richmond Hill community.

An additional treat this year is a raffle. The prizes will include a catered dinner for 6, a weekend getaway at an oceanfront condo in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and a $50 gift certificate to Fishtales restaurant.

Advance tickets will be available at the Historical Society Museum for $25 and may be reserved by phone 756-3697. A lovely tea, hosted by St. Anne CCW, will be served throughout the tour hours, and is included in the ticket price. Tickets will be $30 on the day of the tour.

 

Broadway in Savannah

The Broadway hit Avenue Q comes to the Johnny Mercer Theatre for one performance only Friday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. The musical, part of the ‘Broadway in Savannah’ series, is about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets through a hilariously irreverent, Tony Award-winning book and score. Tickets, starting at $32, are on sale at the Johnny Mercer Theatre box office, online at www.savannahcivic.com or charged by phone at 651-6556.

Veterans

All veterans are urged to attend a special Veterans’ Program Celebration during the regularly scheduled PTO meeting at Lanier Primary School on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. The gifted enrichment students will be presenting the annual Veterans’ Celebration to honor all veterans and currently enlisted members of the USA Armed Forces. This program will feature tributes to American Veterans and service members. Each veteran in attendance will receive recognition.

All veterans are encouraged to support the primary students by attending this special musical program. Call Lanier Primary School at 626-5020 for more information.

 

Thrift sale

St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church will hold its Annual Huge Yard/Thrift Sale on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be food, fun for the children and great bargains for all. It will be located at the Church, 16491 Hwy. 144, Richmond Hill.

 

Veterans program

Make plans to attend the 3rd annual "Veterans Day Program" on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. The program, presented by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #164 and the Boy Scout Troop #357, will be held downtown in the park with the flags at the caboose. The program is free and refreshments will be served.

 

Historian to speak

On Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m., in the Richmond Hill Museum, Buddy Sullivan will discuss aspects of the history of the Georgia Coast and will present his new book. Mr. Sullivan is a noted historian and author of numerous books about Georgia and specifically about the Georgia Coast. A book signing and reception will follow Sullivan’s presentation. Local visual artists will be displaying their work during the evening. The lecture is free and open to the general public. If you have questions or need directions call 756-3697.

 

Grand garage sale

On Saturday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. the Richmond Hill Historical Society is sponsoring a Grand Garage and Bake Sale. Proceeds will be used to fund the operating expenses of the Richmond Hill Museum. Please call 756-3697 if you are interested in donating items to the sale or if you have any questions. Come support your local museum.

 

Youth Service

Volunteers sought

The Dolphin Project is an all-volunteer, non-profit research and education organization which has been studying dolphins in the estuarine waters off the Georgia Coast and Calibogue Sound for over 20 years. The Dolphin Project invites you to attend a program on coastal Bottlenose dolphins and a research training workshop on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9-11 a.m. at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Solms Hall – Room 108.
