The Black Creek School Museum Committee will hold its annual Meeting and Museum Open House from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Bryan County Board of Education Central Office, 8810 Highway 280 E in Black Creek.

The public is invited to meet with the committee and see the progress that has been made in preserving the heritage and history of early schooling in Bryan County, particularly Black Creek School.

There will be an open meeting in the Board of Education Board Room with a short presentation, brochures on supporting the “Friends of Black Creek School Museum” and information on future plans for the museum.

A number of historical papers, photos of students and staff, report cards, annuals, memorabilia and a large desk have been donated thus far and are being cataloged and displayed in the Black Creek School Museum, located in the Bryan County Board of Education building.

The committee plans to distribute a quarterly newsletter, distributed via email and with copies available in the museum.

Plans are also in the works for a website and application for grants. Committee Chairman Billy Mock and Vice Chairman Vernon Sims were both attendees of Black Creek School.

The committee encourages the public to come out and enjoy viewing the papers, photos and artifacts in the museum and meet with the committee members.

The committee will be soliciting memberships for the Friends of Black Creek School Museum and will have information available on membership benefits.
