Army gearing up for Veterans Day

Youth to Visit Veterans at Dublin VA Center
A CYSS/Youth Sponsorship Veteran's Day visit to the Dublin VA Center will be from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Nov. 11. CYSS-registered youth in grades 5-12 may go and have lunch at the center.
The free trip lets military-connected youth to visit with disabled veterans. Registration will be accepted until Nov. 9.
Registration is available online at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/ or at either the Stewart or Hunter Parent Central Services offices. There is a $5 fee for no-shows and for any cancellations after Nov. 3.

Favorites on Thunder Run Menu
Latin favorites, one of four Internationally Inspired Cuisine Night offerings, are on the menu at Club Stewart's Thunder Run restaurant Wednesday.
Next week, Nov. 9, German foods will be served. Service is every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Thunder Run. The cost is $9.95 per adult and half-price for children ages 5-10. There is no charge for children 4 and under.

Storytime at Library
Storytime, 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, is a special time for kids in the Children's Room at George P. Hays Library. Here are the plans for the remainder of November:
Nov. 9 is Thanksgiving Storytime. Children will hear stories about Thanksgiving and make table decorations as their craft activity.
Nov. 16 is the day to celebrate puppets, with stories and puppet play.
Nov. 30 is Celebrate Native American Heritage day with appropriate stories and activities.

Moonlite Bowling at Stewart Lanes
Moonlite Bowling returns to Stewart Lanes on Nov. 12. Enjoy late-night bowling, food and fun. It's open until 1 a.m. The cost is $3 per game per person, and $2 shoe rental. For more information, call 767-4273.

Emerald Princess Casino Boat Trip
Register by Nov. 16 for a Leisure Travel trip aboard the Emerald Princess II Casino ship. Th cruise departs at 9 a.m. from Brunswick. The cost is $15 for soldiers and $20 for all others.

Single Parents Day at Corkan

Turkey Trot Fun Run
A Turkey Trot Fun Run, a 5K or 1.5 mile run/walk geared toward families, will be on Perimeter Road on Hunter Army Airfield starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 19. The run is free.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. It will begin at Stephen Douglas Street. A clock will be set up at the finish line so participants can see their time.

Sign-up for Hunter Skeet/Trap Event
Registration has begun for Hunter Army Airfield's quarterly Skeet/Trap Shoot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Hunter range off South Perimeter Road.
The cost is $25 for skeet or trap (50 birds); or $40 for skeet and trap (100 birds). Lunch is included. Sign-ups will be accepted that day, beginning at 9 a.m.
Safety briefing and flight set-up will begin at 9:45 a.m. Three fields will be used, two for skeet and one for trap, and flights will be fired every 45 minutes starting at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded after the shoot, including winners and door prizes. Participants must be present to win.
The competition will include:
Skeet division (50 birds) - expert, intermediate, novice, youth and ladies.
Trap - one division (50 birds), with all skill levels combined.
Skeet and Trap one division (100 birds), all skill levels combined.

Turkey Bowl at Hunter Lanes
Win a turkey anytime lanes are available at Hunter Lanes through Nov. 20. Get a strike in the 3, 6, 9 frames to win. Or, men, bowl across five lanes and knock down 9 pins or more to win a turkey. Ladies, bowl across five lanes and knock down eight pins or more to win a turkey.

Pre-Thanksgiving Bowling Special
Marne Lanes is offering a bowling special Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving. Hours that day will be10 a.m.-11 p.m.
Kids can bowl for just 50 cents a game all day. And, to add to the fun, anyone who bowls a turkey (three strikes in a row) will get one free game coupon for their next visit. The coupon offer is limited to five per customer.

Managed Deer Hunt Sign-up Deadline
The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Nov. 28 for the next managed hunt, scheduled for Dec. 10 in the Delta Small Impact Range Complex.
Active soldiers stationed at Fort Stewart and retirees may apply. There are 50 slots available for each hunt, with 10 percent being offered to retirees. A lottery at 2 p.m. Nov. 29 will choose the 50 hunters.
Applications will be taken at Pass & Permit Offices on Fort Stewart and Hunter Army.
Individuals can to take part in both morning and afternoon hunts, with lunch provided during the break. A game check and cleaning station will be provided by DPW, Fish and Wildlife Branch. A $10 fee per hunter will be charged and is payable upon selection. Assistance also is provided by DES Game Wardens Branch.
