10-Pound Challenge on Stewart

Work on your 2014 fitness goals during a free Aerobic-Thon and Health Fair from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Newman Fitness Center.

Sample classes in kick-boxing, step, zumba, line-dancing, pilates and more. The fair features fitness assessments, nutritional information and screenings. Plus, you can sign up for the 10-Pound Challenge to get rid of any weight you gained over the holidays.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo, off Highway 119 North.

Bring rifles or muzzle loaders of any caliber. Targets will be 100-1,000 meters. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. Register at the Pass and Permit Office or onsite. For details, call 435-8061 or 767-4316.

 

Gambling cruise

For a day of fun, sail with Leisure Travel aboard the Emerald Princess II casino cruise ship out of Brunswick on Jan. 18. Deadline for signing up is Jan. 15.

Big Trike Day

Jan. 16 is Big Trike Day at Corkan Family Fun Center. From 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., bring your trikes or Big Wheels for a ride around the skating rink. Bounce houses will also be available.

The cost is $1.50 per child, ages 0-5.

 

Bistro nights

Beginning Jan. 24, Club Stewart will serve four-course dinners from 5-9 p.m. Fridays.

The cost is $10.95 for adults and $5.95 for children under 10. Dinners include salad bar, chef's choice of appetizer, entree and dessert.

Travel with BOSS to Atlanta and watch the Hawks square off against the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 24. Then, watch the 12thannual Honda Battle of the Bands on Jan. 25.

Golf 4 Life

Learn golf while having fun at a free “Golf 4 Life” clinic at Hunter Golf Course Jan. 25 from 9-10 a.m.

It's one of a series of clinics that covers a new topic each time. Beginners can learn the basics, while novice golfers improve. There is a priority sign-up for active duty.

Families are invited to a dinner and bowling special from noon-7 p.m. Jan. 26 at Stewart Bowling Center. For $30, families of five get 10 games and five shoe rentals, along with dinner. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Swamp trip

Get face-to-face with the inhabitants and scenery of the majestic Okefenokee Swamp on a Leisure Travel trip Feb. 1. Registration ends Jan. 27.

Valentine’s dinner

Couples are invited to a romantic night out from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 14 at Thunder Run Restaurant, Club Stewart. The cost is $35 per couple for a four-course meal and music.

The price includes a beverage, salad bar, appetizer and a choice of one of four entrees, as well as a shareable dessert. Bar service will be available.

Cardboard Boat Regatta

Put your ingenuity and talents to work building a cardboard boat and you might win a prize at the Tominac Fitness Center’s pool during the Cardboard Boat Regatta on Feb. 22 starting at 10 a.m.

Active duty, family members and other authorized facility users can compete. There’s no charge.

The idea is to use only cardboard and duct tape to build a boat that will make it the length of the pool with a two-person crew. There are three categories: Kids, Kid/Adult, and Adult. There also will be a prize for the best-looking boat.

Depending on number of entries, categories might be combined.

There is no charge to enter, and teams can register at Tominac up to the time of the event. For more information, call 315-2019.
