Patrice Black, second grade teacher at Richmond Hill Elementary School, gave a powerpoint presentation to the student body last week in honor of the state's 274th birthday. Using visual color slides, Black traced Georgia's history from its founding by James Edward Oglethorpe from England to modern day history. Her speech ended with such famous Georgians as Martin Luther King, Jr. and former president of America, James Earl Carter.

Several hundred students attended the presentation and listened attentively. Black included the usual stories about Georgia, but she included many stories that the students probably had not heard. Although her presentation was made before an audience of children, it is appropriate for any age, including adults. Dressed in a colonial dress, Black captivated the attention of all the children and adults, including parents who came.

Dasher dreams big

Donna Dasher dreams big when it comes to music. As an active member of the Arts on the Coast group, she is making plans for singers and players in Bryan County to have a rich and active future. Dasher’s dreams include adults, teens, and even young children. She’d like to see everyone who wants a place to learn music and perform to have the opportunity right here in Bryan County.

Dasher has both the talent and the energy to see her dreams for music come true. She is both well-educated and excited to help others. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University and has studied at a number of other universities. She is also active in music teachers’ associations, such as Georgia Music Teachers Association and Georgia Music Educator’s Association. She is Music Chair and Board Member of Arts on the Coast.

With such as extensive work record and such expertise, Dasher is on her way to having her dreams fulfilled.

Already up and running as director of the Arts on the Coast Singers, Dasher wants to see active groups for teens and children, who would have the blessing of getting started in a wealth of musical opportunities at a young age.

If you can help Dasher reach her dreams for Bryan County and music, call her at 272-4490 or phone the president of Arts on the Coast Barbara Estes at 727-2538
