Stewart/Hunter to host cemetery tour

Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield will host its annual Spring Historic Communities Council Meeting and cemetery visit Friday.
During this visit, scheduled stops include visits to Thomas Hill, Strum Bay, Rimes, Shuman and Letford cemeteries. Space is limited to approximately 80 guests, and reservations are required.
Participants can meet at either the installation’s Pass and Permit Office, building 8093, on Highway 144 from 8-8:45 a.m., or at the Liberty County Recreation Department/Hinesville National Guard parking lot on Highway 84 from 7:30-8:15 a.m. Buses will be waiting at both locations. Both buses link up at the Pass and Permit site at 8:45 a.m. before departing. The tour starts at 9 a.m.
Attendees should bring a bag lunch because time constraints will prevent a visit to the installation’s dining facility. However, a limited number of MREs (Meal Ready to Eat) are available for attendees to purchase for $4.65. Only cash will be accepted.
In addition, participants also may bring bottles of water and insect repellent. Attendees should dress comfortably and wear flat walking shoes. Portable restrooms and hand-washing stations will be set up at two of the stops.
To request more information or to reserve a space and/or a meal for the visit, call Pat Young at 435-9872 or email Patrick.young@us.army.mil.
