Memorial Day is celebrated both nationally and locally to remember those who have lost their lives serving and defending our nation.
Thousands of military service men and women call Richmond Hill their home, just as dozens of retired military men and women call Magnolia Manor on the Coast their home.
To commemorate Memorial Day this year and to honor resident veterans, more than 50 residents, families, and friends joined Magnolia Manor on the Coast for a traditional flag raising ceremony on Sunday.
Local Boy Scout Troop 400 conducted the ceremony, pledged their allegiance, and raised the flag as the audience listened to Reveille on the trumpet.
During the ceremony, the flag certificate was read verifying the flag was flown over the United States Capitol and dedicated to all veterans past, present and future.  Charlie Anderson acted as the Master of Ceremony.
Magnolia Manor on the Coast is an active retirement living community and not-for-profit extension ministry of the United Methodist Church.
