Individual donations from members of the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill have reached $12,000 in the past three years through the “Every Rotarian Every Year” fund.
“I am very proud of our members’ continuing support of international Rotary initiatives, and this year will be a very active one for our club in the international charitable arena,” said Bill Eberlein, president of the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill and CEO of Megateeth Fossils.
Individual Rotarians regularly contribute to the fund through monthly donations.
One of the main priorities of Rotary International is to eradicate polio, and Rotary has been working for more than two decades with partners including the World Health Organization, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and UNICEF.
The incidence of polio infection has plunged from about 350,000 cases in 1988 to fewer than 1,300 reported cases in 2010.
More than two billion children have been immunized in 122 countries, preventing five million cases of paralysis and 250,000 pediatric deaths.
