A fleet of model planes took to the skies last weekend at Savannah’s Staff Sgt. Anthony Davis Memorial RC Model Airfield to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.About 50 model aircraft pilots — including several from Liberty County — showcased their skills before a crowd of hundreds during the Tri-County RC Flyers air show. Model aviators zipped their planes up and down the runway, launching them into acrobatic maneuvers, dips, dives and twists that varied just as much as the aircraft themselves. The models ranged from those designed to resemble World War I and II fighter planes to modern airliners, include a fully functioning jet.
