Oatland Island Spring Celebration to highlight fiber arts

Oatland Island Wildlife Center will have a Spring Celebration and Sheep Shearing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 10.  The center is located five miles east of Savannah off Islands Expressway at 711 Sandtown Road.

The special fundraising event will feature the shearing of the Shetland sheep “Cloud” and “Storm” and the Angora goats “Rue” and “Finnick” by members of The Fiber Guild of the Savannahs. 

Guild members will be demonstrating many fiber arts techniques as well as how the fleece is processed into a garment of warmth and beauty. 

Local musicians, Joe Nelson and James Pittman will play music while visitors enjoy the many fun activities. There will be crafts and games for the kids and Oatland’s “Native Animal Nature Trail” will be open. Food concessions will be available.

Admission is $5 per adult, $3 per child ages 4-17, seniors and military. Children under the age of 4 are admitted free.
