One of the most original films of the year is in theaters now. It’s called “Looper,” and I’ll give you everything you need to know about this sci-fi thriller without any spoilers.

In 2044, time travel hasn’t been invented yet, but it will be invented 30 years in the future, at which time it’s instantly made illegal and only available on the black market.

So, when the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” — a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) — is waiting to kill them and dispose of the body. Cops in the future never find a thing. Life is good for Joe, until the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. Young Joe and Old Joe both want to live and are running around in the same place and time.

“Looper” is an amazing cinematic accomplishment. There’s a killer story, and it boasts slick visuals, perfect actors and lots of action. I’m a fan!
