Longtime Pembroke Lions Club member Marie L. Smith was recognized for her humanitarian work by Lions Club International and named a Melvin Jones Fellow on Nov. 16 by Joe Bill Brannon, Lions Club district governor. Brannon awarded Smith a plaque and said the Melvin Jones Fellowship is “the highest honor that a (Lions) club can give to an individual.”
Smith’s husband, Artie Smith, also a Pembroke Lions Club member, proudly pinned a Melvin Jones Fellowship pin to his wife’s lapel.
