Jan. 16: First Christian Academy open house  — First Christian Academy will open its doors from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday for parents of infants through fourth-graders interested in touring the campus, previewing the curriculum and meeting the teachers and administrators. Along the way, parents will also get a sneak peak of the gym, the classrooms, the technology center and future programs being introduced this school year. Free entrance day — Martin Luther King Jr. Day kicks off the first free entrance day in 2014 at Fort Pulaski National Monument, just one of nearly 400 national parks across the country where entrance fees will be waived. Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., kids can pick up a Junior Ranger booklet at the Visitor Center that lists fun activities for kids ages 5-12. Children will also earn a badge and a certificate for completing the activities. More information on free entrance days in the National Parks can be found at nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm.

35th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Day parade — The parade is returns to downtown Savannah on Monday as people gather along East Broad Street, Broughton Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to watch more than 300 floats roll through. People are encouraged to grab a seat along the parade route as early as possible to ensure a view of the sights.
