Here are a few of the activities coming to our area:

May 12

LDSS Night of Champions — The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society will present its seventh annual Night of Champions at 6 p.m. at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa’s hotel grand ballroom, 1 Resort Drive, Savannah. This community event celebrates differently abled adults, including these with Down syndrome, and recognizes the local businesses that employ those individuals. Celebrity chef and author Jamie Deen will return as host. The lead actor of "Where Hope Grows," David DeSanctis, will make a guest appearance. Tickets are $40 each, or $400 for a table of 10. RHMS seventh-grade awards — Richmond Hill Middle School will award its top students in various areas from 9:30-11 a.m. in the school gym.

RHMS chorus concert — Richmond Hill Middle School’s chorus will perform its final concert of the school year at 7 p.m. in the school.

May 13

Family Promise of Bryan County Golf Tournament — Family Promise of Bryan County will host a golf tournament at Black Creek Golf Club. Cost is $100 per player. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch is at noon and shotgun start is at 1:30 p.m. Call 912-388-6522 or go to www.familypromisebryancounty.org.

Spring into Summer Door Hanger Party at Let’s Create — Spring into summer with inviting door hangers from 6-9 p.m. at Let’s Create, 10471 Ford Ave., Richmond Hill. Flowers are blooming, and it’s time to freshen up your front door. You choose the shape, Let’s Create supplies everything else. Light refreshments will be served. Spend the day or evening with friends both new and old. Call 912-480-0007 or go to letscre8.com to pick your shape and reserve your spot. Cost is $35.

Football scrimmage — Richmond Hill middle and high schools will hold their spring football scrimmage at RHHS. Middle school team will kick off at 5 p.m.; high school team will follow immediately.

May 14

Mother’s Day Paddle at Fort McAllister — Fort McAllister State Historic Park, 3894 Fort McAllister Road, Richmond Hill, will host the Mother’s Day Paddle from 9-11 a.m. at Redbird Creek. Mothers accompanying their children pay half price. Check in at 8:30 a.m. at the front office; launch is a 9 a.m. Reservations required. Admission is $20, plus $5 parking per vehicle. Book sale at Richmond Hill Library — The Friends of the Richmond Hill Library will have a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the library. All types of books will be available at reasonable prices. Donations of gently used books may be brought to the library during hours of operation. Please do not donate encyclopedias, VHS tapes, magazines or damaged books.

RHHS car wash — Richmond Hill High School football will hold a car wash from 8 a.m. to noon at the Richmond Hill Senior Center, 9330 Ford Ave. Cost is $10 per vehicle.

May 15

Yoga in the Park at Fort Pulaski — Calling all yogis. As part of the Centennial Series, celebrating 100 years of the National Park Service, Fort Pulaski National Monument will host Yoga in the Park. The first session will be held at 7:30 a.m. inside the historic fort. The second session will be held at 1:30 p.m. along the Savannah River near the historic North Pier. The classes will be taught by Tybee Island resident Stacie Haney, who brings more than 25 years of her own personal yoga journey to Fort Pulaski. The classes will be in the Integral Hatha style, which integrates many facets of the yoga practice. Each class is a complete yoga practice, complete with chanting, the asanas or physical poses, breathing practices and a brief meditation. Bring a yoga mat or blanket, towel, plenty of water, bug spray and sunscreen. Fort Pulaski is on Highway 80, 15 miles east of Savannah. Entrance fee is $7 per person; ages 15 and younger are free.
