Victory Haven is taking community health to a new level by joining forces with Georgia Game Changers.

The organization is scheduled to hold a ribbon-cutting Monday for a smoothie café inside Georgia Game Changers’ new complex on Ford Avenue in Richmond Hill.

“I am very excited about what we are about to do in our community. What happened to my wife has been extraordinary. We had to come to terms with what we would do with her cancer,” said Timothy Havens, who founded Victory Haven with his wife, Naomi, in 2010.
Georgia Game Changers also is looking forward to the new café.

“We are thrilled that Naomi will be joining us in the Game Changers Health and Fitness Complex,” said Sandra Elliott, owner of Georgia Game Changers. “Naomi is living proof that choices about what we eat and drink matter. She has a passion for sharing what she knows with others. Her passion is for serving others, and we believe Victory Haven will truly have a game-changing impact on our community”.

Ingredients for the smoothie café will be all organic, not genetically modified, gluten free, non-soy and supplied by two growers in Richmond Hill. Other items will be brought in from the Savannah Food Co-op.

Liver cleanse and ginger

Can be a juice or smoothie. (picture 3887)

The liver is similar to the oil filter in a car or truck. It filters the body and can get clogged with toxins. Just like it is important to change the oil filter in your vehicle, it is also important to cleanse the liver of the toxins.

Ingredients:

1 organic red beet (leaves can be used if you choose) -- Beets help the liver to make hydrochloric acid necessary for digestion. They also cleanse the liver and blood.

1 organic lemon, peeled -- Lemons are cleansing. Lemons also assist the liver in making enzymes, which help decrease stress on the liver as it performs its function.

1 organic cucumber -- Aids the liver during the cleansing process. Cucumbers provide nutrients that help the liver to excrete toxins. They may also relieve joint pain and may reduce cholesterol.

1 organic apple, tart brands are the best -- Gives extra added flavor to the drink, are a good source of vitamin A, and a high source of magnesium, which relaxes the bowels to help release toxins. Apples are also a high source of fiber.

A slice of ginger (whatever size you prefer). -- Ginger settles the stomach and helps with digestion.

2 tablespoons cold-press extra-virgin olive oil can be added at the end to help absorption of the nutrients, as well as to help pull toxins out of the body.

Directions:

If juicing, put them through your juicer.

If making a smoothie, blend everything together in whatever blender you choose.

1 organic avocado, chopped

1 organic tomato, chopped

1 clove organic garlic, chopped

organic cilantro to taste, chopped

1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Apple cider vinegar, or other similar dressing (see suggestions below)

This is a versatile recipe. You can use just about any salad ingredient you prefer. You also can use black beans or garbanzo beans
instead of the lentils.

Suggested dressings include:

Bragg Organic Hawaiian Dressing & Marinade

Directions:

Combine water and quinoa in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer, cover and cook until grain has soaked up the water (approximately 15 minutes).
