The American Diabetes Association’s fall campaign, “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes,” gets under way Saturday with the sixth annual Hugh H. Armstrong Sr. Memorial Kayak for a Kure.
The event costs $50 per person and includes entry, barbecue lunch and drinks, live music and transportation for kayakers after the race. The three-mile paddle begins at Butterbean Beach and ends at the UGA Marine Extension Service Aquarium. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the paddle is at 10. The paddle is suitable for beginners and experts and is timed to coincide with the tides. Roughly 15 kayaks are available for use, free to those who reserve them.
Participants can register by calling 912-353-8110, ext. 3093 or emailing suwillis@diabetes.org. For more information, go to the American Diabetes Association’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/adasavannah.
