An interview with garden club president Jan Davis

Q: How long have you lived in Richmond Hill?
A: I am originally from Macon, Georgia. But I moved here from Savannah. Now, I have lived in Richmond Hill for 14 years.
Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I am a retired elementary-school teacher. I taught in Savannah; my last school was Haven Elementary School. Now that I’m retired, I love to travel.
Q: How long have you been a member of the garden club?
A: I have been a member of the garden club for six years. I joined for the fellowship and to belong to a club that serves the community.
Q: What do you enjoy most about garden club?
A: I love being affiliated with a group of ladies who love gardening as much as I do.
Q: What is your favorite flower or plant?
A: It’s hard to choose just one. My favorite flower is the columbine, my favorite shrub is the tea olive, my favorite herb is lambs ear and my favorite tree is the beautiful live oaks from this area of the United States.
Q: Do you have a garden at your home? If so, what do you grow?
A: I enjoy growing flowers and shrubs. The deer won’t let me grow vegetables!
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do on a weekend?
A: I love boating. We own a boat and enjoy going to St. Catherines Island during the week when it is pretty much deserted. We enjoy taking our dog with us.
Q: What’s your favorite nearby area to visit? Why?
A: I like visiting St. Catherines Island because of its natural beauty.
Q: If money weren’t an option, how would you spend your time?
A: I would spend my time traveling. Last year, we went to Italy and saw a small part of the country. We would love to go back and see more. It is such a beautiful country.
Q: What talent would you most like to have?
A: I would like to learn to play a musical instrument, especially the piano.
