The 51st annual Kicklighter family reunion was held on Saturday, July 31, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Glennville.
A potluck meal was served to around 100 members who came from states including Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois and Arizona.
Awards were presented to the eldest family member in attendance as well as to the family member who traveled the greatest distance.
Russell Kicklighter from Islandton, S.C., gave a presentation on the first Kicklighters to arrive in America, who arrived in Charleston, S.C., in 1753.
Another presentation by Ken Kicklighter of Glennville discussed details of the Kicklighters who served in the U.S. Civil War.
Jerry Kicklighter of Stone Mountain, Ga., also provided a presentation on Jesse Kicklighter, who, as the father of 18 children, is commonly regarded as the patriarch of the Kicklighter family in this part of Georgia.
During the business portion of the reunion, Bill Kicklighter was chosen as chairman for next year’s family reunion. Debbie Fordham was chosen as treasurer, and Lita Kicklighter North-Owens was chosen to serve as secretary.
The 52nd Kicklighter reunion is planned for July 30, 2011, again at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Glennville.
