Former 486 scouts earns Eagle rank

A former member of Boy Scout Troop 486 in Richmond Hill has climbed the ranks to Eagle Scout in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Matthew Gregory Nyberg, 14, received the rank of Eagle Scout on Dec. 2, 2010. Matthew is the son of U.S. Army Lt. Col. Chris and Pat Byler.
Matthew’s scouting career began in Jacksonville, Ala., as a Tiger Cub with Pack 19. He earned his Arrow of Light Award as a Webelo II with Pack 486 in Richmond Hill. Matthew has held many positions in both Troops 486 and 27, such as librarian, historian, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, Order of the Arrow troop representative and troop guide. Matthew has participated in many summer camps, is a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s Honor Society, and has completed 36 merit badges.
Matthew’s Eagle Scout project totaled 132.5 man-hours and included painting Divine Redeemer’s Catholic Church Community Center and hiding speaker and Internet wires along three walls of the center.
He is the third Scout of Troop 27 to earn the rank of Eagle during Boy Scout’s 100th anniversary.
