Worry less and pray more

"But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, `What shall we eat?’ or `What shall we drink?’ or `What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well."

— Matthew 6:30-33

I was taught as a boy that God has a way that you can’t go over, under or around, that you must come in through the door. In other words, God’s way is always the best way.

We tend to mess things up when we do things our way, worrying about things God already has covered. He is an all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful God and if he has done it before he’ll do it again.

If we let our guard down, we can find ourselves being ruled by many different things such as the power of position, the love of money or possessions, the glamor of wealth and prestige, and the desires of unruly passions and addictions. Ultimately our choices boil down to: God or the world.

Worry is neither helpful nor necessary. It robs us of our faith in God’s help and it saps our energy for doing positive things. We are instructed to make seeking the kingdom our priority. Putting away the worry of the world for the peace of our Lord and Savior.

I’ve just come to remind you to worry less and pray more. God has a plan for your life. Seek first the Kingdom, God can bless your territory, move obstacles out your way. Put a praise on your lips. Put a dance in your feet. But the kingdom is holy, the kingdom is love, the kingdom is joy, the kingdom is power, the kingdom is where we’ll serve the Lord forever.
