The study in this series of articles has been to show that man must trust in God and not in the words or thoughts of men.
We discussed the things men say they trust in and have shown that God is the only one to place trust in when it comes to spiritual things. Also we looked at the different periods of time in which man has lived; the Patriarchal Age, the Mosaical Age and now the Christian Age.
The Christian Age will continue until the end of time. God has always given man a law, and now man lives under the law of Christ. Some have tried to continue to live under the Law of Moses, but as has been seen in this study, it served its purpose. It was to bring man to Christ (Galatians 3:24).
The Hebrew writer further explained that the Law of Moses did not forgive sins, it was not possible under that law. Notice this reading, "For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? Because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure" (Hebrews 10:1-6).
Christ came as planned by God to redeem mankind (Acts 2:23). Man must obey Christ’s law (Hebrews 5:8-9) in order to be saved. It is his law that must be followed today, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high" (Hebrews 1:1-3).
God was and is aware that there would be those who would come teaching different doctrines than what he wants taught. The Holy Spirt directed Paul to write to Timothy about this very thing. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer" (1 Timothy 4:1-5).
He later in the second letter wrote, "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry" (2 Timothy 4:2-5).
If one places trust in God, making sure the things taught are God’s word and they obey them, heaven awaits after this life.
