Thanking God for whats most important

This weekend is Thanksgiving weekend; a time when we are reminded of so many things to be thankful for.

For many it can just be a time to eat, party and have time off from work. But the truth of the matter is that we have so much more than the trappings of the holiday to be thankful for.

If you were able to open up your eyes this morning, you can be thankful for another day to be alive. One of our members just received word that one of her cousins, just 28 years old, had a massive heart attack and died, leaving behind a wife and two young children. That is a true tragedy for that family.

If we have good health, we can be thankful because so many don’t. I have a close friend up North who has been fighting lung cancer, and the progress hasn’t been that great.

I could go on and on with things that we should be thankful for.

There is one thing that we should be thankful for that far outshines them all. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you really have it all. Those who follow Jesus first have the best life here on this Earth.

I’m not saying that this life is free from sorrow, pain or persecution but in the end, Christians wouldn’t trade the life they lived because of the closeness of God and having fulfillment and peace.

Also, we have the promise of eternal life, so that even if our life is cut short through sickness or tragedy, we still win.

In 12 Corinthians 9:15 the Apostle Paul says “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift,” speaking of God’s gift to humanity, Jesus Christ.

The great news is that this gift of God’s Son is offered to every person who will receive it, all who will humble themselves, confess their sins and choose to become followers of Jesus.
