Our past life is behind us, thanks to God

A couple of months ago, I went to have surgery. In that process, I had to look at my medical records to make sure they were correct, including medicines I had taken and previous surgeries.
As I glanced through them, I thought, “What if I could see all of my past sins, what all would be there that I would be embarrassed about?”
The truth of the matter is, when I confessed my sins before God and accepted the forgiveness brought about by Jesus’s sacrifice, everything I have ever done has been erased. We are told in Psalm 103:12 “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us,” and in Acts 3:19, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out,” and then again in Hebrews 8:12, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
In other words, thank God our past lives have been erased. We are not perfect, but hopefully, we can say, “I’m not the man I want to be, but thank God I’m not the man I used to be.”
The good news is that we can go forward in life knowing that we can and will become more like Christ, and we can join in singing the old children’s song that says:
“He’s still working on me
“To make me what I need to be
“It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
“The sun and the Earth and Jupiter and Mars
“How loving and patient he must be,
“‘Cause he’s still workin’ on me.”
