Our handle on what we don't see

The following Scripture quote is from the translation "The Message"

Hebrews 11

1-2 The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.

3 By faith, we see the world called into existence by God’s word, what we see created by what we don’t see.

Lately there has been a lot of news coverage about people being killed. I speak of the students at Virginia Tech more specifically. It seems to me we as a nation have forgotten our roots. We are, whether or not those on the political left in our nation want to believe it, are a nation based on Christian beliefs. Under score if you will the word Beliefs. The word belief is not something we faintheartedly hold true. Beliefs are what hold the fabric of our life together. Beliefs are things we feel so strongly about that nothing is going to shake us from them and they are applied to the very core of whom and what we are. The scripture from Hebrews says it like this: The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living.

I’m sure that the parents of this young man who killed 32 people and then took his own life wonder what went wrong with their child. But I think the problem goes much deeper than one young man and his losing touch with reality.

I believe that we as a nation, and especially we who are Christians, have failed our kids and maybe the children for the next few generations. Please don’t give up on me just yet.

I believe because we allowed liberals in our country to take prayer out of our schools, tell us how we can raise our kids and even tell us we can’t discipline our children without fear of the government coming and putting us in jail. our basic fundamental trust in God is being questioned by those who want to call us fundamental freaks. Life is only worth the living when Christian ethics are applied evenly to all humanity. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd. Amen. What is needed in our time is, for parents to quite being buddies and pals with their children and exercise a little Christian discipline in the lives of their children. Now I don’t mean beat kids half to death, but I have noticed that lately a lot, I mean a whole lot, of children are out of control. You see it everywhere you go. Children acting badly and parents just sitting by wondering what to do next.

Honestly if I had embarrassed my parents like some of these kids do today I wouldn't have been able to sit down. Yet with all the psycho-babble that goes on today you would have thought we were scared for life. Well I turned out ok - I’m not perfect not am I holier that anyone else. What we need in our world today is good old Christian ethics and Christian living in homes, schools, work places, business and especially in political office. We need men to step up to the plate and be real men. Real men know that everything they have comes from God. They are truly Christians in every aspect of their life, including their home life. The same goes for women. We need a great revival like has never been seen in our country before. What made America great before was the "Great Awakening" in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. People went to church, got saved and lived out their life as Christians should. We have a problem. With our children we have taught them to be so self-centered that human life means nothing to them. If you hurt me I’ll kill you is the norm, before you divorce me I’ll kill you seems to be the norm. God please help our country. Please save boys, girls, men and women, so our great nation might be peaceful and good once again. Amen
