Only whats done for Christ will last

After Christmas, I was burning boxes that some of the presents were wrapped in. Those boxes were reduced to ashes not recognizable at all.

As I watched, I realized that this is how life is for the most part. Most things that each of us did this past year will soon be forgotten; a lot of which we ourselves will forget all about.

There are a few memories which have been caught on tape or film and there are even fewer memories stored in the brain (or at least will ever be retrieved from the brain).

Over time, if this world lasts that long, possibly every one of our contributions made in 2007 will soon be completely forgotten. Of course, we are talking about those things forgotten by humanity. What we need to realize is that God is ever watching and He has the power to remember and forget anything and everything He chooses.

We know according to scripture that He chooses to forget all our sins that have been confessed in this past year. We also know that He is keeping track of our good deeds that we one day will receive rewards for.

The key to 2008, which by the way is almost here, is to always be open to the Spirit of God to allow Him to search our hearts on a regular basis to see if there is any unconfessed sin that needs to be confessed.

We also need to do our best to do good to our fellow men, seeking ways to make better lives for those around us. We need to remember what someone wrote years ago but is still applicable today: "Only one life, twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last."
