Obeying law of love means application

Jesus made it clear of what the greatest rules of life to follow were.
When asked what the greatest commandments from God were, he answered, in Mark 12, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength,” and "Love your neighbor as yourself.” The Apostle Paul elevated this idea of love in 1 Corinthians 13 when he went as far as to say that if we had enough faith to move a mountain, it would be worth nothing without love in our lives.
He then went on to say that if we were burned alive for preaching the Gospel but didn't have love, it would be of no value. Wow — this love thing must mean a lot to our heavenly father.
Some may think that making a decision to become a follower of Christ gets one off the hook at following the laws of God in the Scriptures. In other words, all I have to do is love. If we will investigate it, love requires more out of us. Paul reminds us in Romans that love is the fulfillment of the law. If we really love God, then that love will compel us do what he asks of us and will keep us from having other gods in our lives, using his name inappropriately and will cause us to put aside time to worship him.
The same is true relative to our neighbors. If we truly love them, we will not murder them, steal from them, commit adultery with their spouse, etc.
It's easy to say we love God and others, but it's much harder to live it out. We need to practice what the book of James teaches us when it says, "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."
How can we achieve this? Ask the Lord to fill us with his love.
